- Are payment cards as secure as a chip-and-PIN bank card?
- For the contactless authentication itself, yes — both rely on AES-128 mutual authentication. The difference is the trust model: bank cards authenticate at the issuer's payment network, campus cards authenticate at your commerce platform. The cryptography is equivalent.
- How are balances handled if a card is lost?
- Balance lives in the campus commerce backend, not on the card. When a card is reported lost, the platform invalidates the credential ID and reissues a new card pre-associated with the same account. Funds remain intact.
- Can students fund the card from their phone?
- Yes — the campus commerce platform typically offers a web/mobile portal for funding. Students and parents can top up via card, bank transfer, or scheduled auto-reload. The physical card is the access key to that balance.
- Do payment cards work for vending machines without an internet connection?
- Modern campus vending machines run lightweight readers that authenticate locally with a recently-synced key set and queue transactions for backend reconciliation. Cards still work during brief outages; transactions are settled when connectivity returns.
- What's the MOQ and lead time?
